Meirion amateur radio society is affiliated with the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) who represent all radio amateurs throughout the UK. MARS take their part in representing radio amateurs from South Gwynedd (Meirionydd) very seriously and welcome anyone who has an interest in any aspect of radio communications, electronics and communications in general.

MARS often operate special event stations for and are proud to be associated with organisation like the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in Barmouth, and the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog. Please listen out for our callsigns whenever you are on the air and give us a call if you like, we will be glad to hear from you.

Meirion ARS 2018 VHF Competition

Our 2018 VHF competition is designed to increase the activity on 2 meters.

We have 2 categories an inter club competition & DX competition both with no power or antenna restrictions.


Inter Club Competition

  • Most number of confirmed & logged contacts between Meirion ARS Members for a list of current members click Here
  • Any mode including VOIP
  • Multiple contacts ie if you have a regular sked with  the same member every day each one counts as a contact
  • Mobile or base station contacts qualify
  • 1 contact = 1 point Most points the winner


2 Meters DX Competition

  • Best DX logged contact
  • All modes of operation (FM SSB DATA CW)
  • Base station, mobile or portable
  • NO VOIP ie Echolink, Allstar, Dstar, DMR etc
  •  Winner will be judged by the longest distance contact as measured point to point
